Films for the week

A bit of a slow week, but I saw some really good films that I needed to. Netflix is saving my life right now.

North by Northwest (1959) - Considering it was an Alfred Hitchcock classic that I had not seen, I was a little bit disapointed in this film. But still all in all a great movie. 8/10

Ip Man (2008) - One of the better, if not best, martial arts films I have ever seen, though I am not too familiar with the genre. Well acted, and immaculate direction. Read full review on my blog. 8/10

Blade Runner (1982) - Not only one of the best science fiction films I have ever seen, but one of the best films I have ever seen. Blade Runner is an absolute masterpiece not to be missed by any film buff. Read full review on my blog. 10/10

Vertigo (1958) - The first time I saw this I thought it was Hitchcocks finest film, but after seeing it a second time years later I do not feel quite the same, though I would put it in my top five. 9/10

TRON (1982) - Another disappointment, just an average film, a little above average at best. Though its visuals and entertainment will be enough to keep most fans happy. Read full review on my blog. 6/10

The Crazies (2010) - A horror remake that actually works, somewhat. The acting is not good for the most part, but The Crazies packs a few chills that will be great for just sitting to watch an entertaining film. Do not be expecting much though. Read full review on my blog. 6/10

Raging Bull (1980) - Without a doubt one of the best films I have ever seen. It's as simple as that. De Niro is brilliant in his performance, as this sad tale of an abusive boxer will bring many to tears. 10/10

  2. Basically. But sometimes I like to watch more than that, though that is generally at least the goal :) Thanks for reading!

  3. I'd say we've got a similar taste in movies judging by your posts on this blog so far Matt.
I like the fact that you feature a mixture of films from across the decades rather than just modern films too and I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with next week.

  5. Vertigo in my opinion is one of the greatest films ever made. I give it 11/10!! AFI have disgracefully under rated it. For me it is in my top five greatest films ever.
The novel wasn't bad either if you can find a copy and want to read it.
I remember Tron when it was released and avoided it like the plague as it was a nerds movie and all the computer geeks flocked to cinemas to see it!!! After all these years I still haven't sen it and thought the recent outing was absolutely boring!

  6. So you think it is Hitchcock's best? I loved the film, but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece :) Yeah, TRON just was not that good to me either.

  7. Hard to say which is Hitch's best..but I will say it is a masterpiece myself....absolutely. Depending on what you read and who many say this is one of the very greatest films ever made..I can't disagree. Jimmy Stewart was more brilliant than usual under Hithcock. My fav actor by a country mile.

  8. Yeah, from what I have read most critics and people call it a masterpiece. I just did not think it was quite as brilliant as Rear Window, Strangers on a Train, and Psycho, but that is just me. I love Stewart as well, and he plays in what is probably my favorite film of all time, It's a Wonderful Life.

  9. Rear Window is absolutely superb to! I prefer Vertigo and Rear Window to psycho because of Jimmy Stewart. I like all his films with Hitchcock.... Grace kelly looks just delicious in Rear Window and she is a damn fine reason to give it repeated viewings!!

  10. Yeah, I get your love for Stewart, he is in my top five and has a performance in my top 5 of all time best. Grace Kelly was excellent, one of her better performances I think.
