For all Woody Allen fans

I have never really gotten into any of his works, but I am curious, where does he stand as the greatest directors of all time in your opinion? I am heading out this afternoon to see his newest film "Midnight in Paris" and have very high hopes for it. In fact, along with "The Tree of Life" it was my most anticipated film of the year. But if anyone has seen Midnight in Paris, I would love to hear your thoughts on it whether they are positive or negative. Though it received a 93% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, so it can't be that bad, right?

Anyways, on a separate note, I will be getting back to my somewhat marathon of the Harry Potter films soon, either today or tomorrow, and fully plan to have all of the movies reviewed before the big day for the midnight showing. Enjoy everyone!

Woody Allen is an acquired taste. I like his films as they are so different with a unique quirkiness. Many people just don't get his style but I look forward to his films exactly because they are so outside of mainstream thinking/style.
Hard to gauge where he stands as a great film maker because we all have differing opinions and favorites. At the end of the day he has been around along time and made a hell of a lot of films meaning cannot be ignored.

  2. Thanks for the opinion Brent. I looked up some of his films earlier, and this may be the only one I will have seen all the way through. After I get through with all of these Harry Potter movies I will try to change that.

  3. Never cared for him artistically or his personal life. I've seen 3 or 4 of his films and don't care much for them. Great director, not in my book.

  5. I am yet to look into the workings of Allen. So far I have seen Annie Hall andI think the way his comedy works is very funny and different. Some people hate it and some people love it.

  7. He's personally my favorite director. I've yet to see "Midnight in Paris", but I've seen all of his other films. If you like the new one and you want to see more, I'd recommend starting with "Manhattan Murder Mystery" and "Deconstructing Harry". They're not his best films, but they're the two I first saw and beyond that I was hooked. Don't go into either of those expecting GREATNESS, but just watch them casually, as you would any other movie and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Beyond that, seek out "Manhattan", "Crimes and Misdemeanors", "Broadway Danny Rose", "Match Point" (a very different type of Woody Allen film), "Everyone Says I Love You", "Mighty Aphrodite" and even his 2010 film, "You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger" was very good. The good thing about becoming a Woody fan is that you get a new movie every year and the astounding thing is, is that even at his rapid rate of film producing, his yearly film is USUALLY one of the best films of the year. Also, try to separate the artist from the person - sure Woody did some unsavory things in his personal life, but that doesn't mean you're not allowed to enjoy his films. Good luck and here's hoping you enjoy what you see.

  8. Quite simple, though it cannot be done with google. Just go to Disqus.com and it's pretty self explanatory from there!
