New Films and Some Blogging Love!

Seeing as I love all of the blogs I follow, I thought I would start giving out some links every week! But first, here are the films I have seen recently and my opinion on them.

Sleepless in Seattle - This is one underrated film in my opinion. The ending was just a bit less then satisfying, but for the most part I have nothing but praises for it! The directing was solid throughout, and Tom Hanks gave an absolutely touching performance. Oddly enough, especially for my age, I loved this film. 3.5/4

Away We Go - Anyone who reads this blog knows I love Sam Mendes, but I am not going to pretend like I loved Away We Go. The first half was decent, but the second half was better. Unfortunately, they felt like two completely different films! John Krasinski was excellent, and Mendes was good basically, but I only enjoyed this film, nothing more. 2.5/4

Pale Rider - Clint Eastwood is one incredible director, but I cannot say that Pale Rider lived up to his finest work as both an actor and director (The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, Million Dollar Baby, Letters from Iwo Jima). But what is the best thing about Eastwood? Even when he is off his game he still comes through. 3/4

There Will Be Blood - Masterpiece. 4/4

V for Vendetta - Not a film I really want to watch more than once, but V for Vendetta was a very thought provoking work that truly has excellent direction and acting. Not to mention a great musical score. 3.5/4

Stevee does an interesting review style for Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and like everyone else she hated it much more than I did.

Aditya reviewed The Wrestler, an easy favorite of mine.

Never Too Early Movie Predictions shares thoughts on Tower Heist, but did not find it as good as most critics have.

Jesse breaks down a Jaws copy cat Orca, starring Richard Harris, giving it a surprisingly solid score.

John Gilpatrick gives an unusual negative review for the film Beginners, calling it a "snooze".

  1. Come on Matt, how can you post about Sleepless In Seattle and not mention Meg Ryan?
I'm only joking. I get very sentimental about some of those old Meg Ryan movies and it's nice to meet another guy who actually admits to liking Sleepless'.
As for the other films on your list the only one I've see is Pale Rider(I really must get around to watching TWBB).
Like you I'm a big fan of Clint and even though Pale Rider isn't one of his greatest it's still a solid Western.
It's also Eastwood's homage to Shane, if you ever get a chance to watch that one you'll notice the similarities.
    Have a great weekend.

  2. Haha I know right? I am pretty badly made fun of for liking that and You've Got Mail lol. Great movies though!

Yeah, it was definitely worth watching and probably a several viewing film!

Thanks Paul, always great to hear from you.

  3. god, I love V for Vendetta, the only film on your post I have actually seen. just proof that great comic book adaptations don;t constantly have to be superheroes.

  5. Thanks for the link love Matt! Not sure why I couldn't get into Tower Heist as much as some others, but maybe I was just expecting too much?
