News and films this week

Well, it has officially all ended, and I suppose it is time for me to go back to regular ol' blogging. It sure has been a fun past few weeks reviewing all of the Harry Potter films, with the anticipation of the final film being released. And I hope every reader I have had enjoyed it. I did, however, get to see a few other films aside from Harry Potter.

The Company Men (2010) - A very interesting film that moves slowly, but is ultimately rewarding for its outlook on life and strong performances from Ben Affleck and Tommy Lee Jones, as well as many others. 7/10

127 Hours (2010) - Maybe not quite as good as I had expected it to be, though I have never really been a fan of Boyle's directorial style. Still, 127 Hours is boosted by its strong performance from James Franco and somewhat brief runtime. But for the record, if the choice was mine I would have chosen The Town over this for best picture. 8/10

Manhattan (1979) -  The finest Woody Allen film that I have seen so far, Manhattan is funny and brilliantly written, as well as the perfection of the cast. 9/10

Zodiac (2007) - Coming from on of my favorite modern directors, David Fincher (The Social Network), I had the highest of expectations for Zodiac. It entirely lived up to them, and this is probably my second favorite of his movies. The Length is a bit too much at times, but Zodiac is held aloft by Fincher's incredible direction. 8/10

Okay, there are a few trailers I would like to share this week, starting with Matt Damon's newest film, Contagion.

Next I have a film I am very excited to see, though I am probably the only one. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

  1. Good stuff. For me Zodiac is perfect, and not just my favorite Fincher film but one of my 10 favorite films of all time. It's amazing how accurate it is to the actual facts of the case, and I've done a lot of research on the subject. Just an incredible movie.

  3. That is true. I was interested about how accurate it was, quite amazing really. But the Social Network is going to be my favorite, though I wanted The King's Speech to win the Oscar. Thanks!

  4. I'm not sure if I would recommend it or not. It isn't great, but it's still a good film.
